Niagara Classic Road Race

What started out as a cool day, ended up as a cool one. Flyers Paul and Quentin hung together for about 3 laps, when the Effingham Hill finally shattered the group into leaders and the rest. Once the hill was wet, the risk of slipping was quite high. Road conditions deteriorated a bit on the rest of the course, but nothing too bad.

Quentin finished a strong 22nd (37 seconds off the lead) out of the 71 in our heat and Paul 48th (6 minutes 57 off lead).

A day that got tougher as time wore on. As paul said, it started cool and then got cold, when combined with rain and a prevailing crosswind for most of the course, it was a challenging day as indicated by the number of DNFs on the course. Effingham hill needed a granny gear as my garmin registered a 16% grade, stand up and you started to spin the back wheel on the slick road conditions. Don't stand up and my legs were screaming. The first lap was completed in 19:34 for the 12.3km circuit, second lap completed at 40:39, third lap at 1:02:55, fourth lap at 1:24:02 and the final lap was 1:45:32. Obviously, the legs were getting fatigued as the race continued and the elements took hold. A great day nonetheless. The flyers could use some help as some of the teams had 5 or 6 guys who could control the ride. With 5 or 6 of our team out there, perhaps we could give some of these guys a run for their money.
